Born on the failed colony world of Alspeth, she was found after the destruction of her colony by Ariel from the haven world of Xanadu. Taken to that mystical haven, Niko was raised, and her natural psychic abilities were nurtured. At the age of 19, she left Xanadu to return to her people and joined the Galaxy Rangers. After the academy, she was accepted into the experimental Series V program.
She was assigned to the Series V Rangers as their mystic and archaeological expert - considering the number of missions they went on involving new cultures and different beliei systems.
It was during this time that she met Shane Gooseman, and during the two years prior to Chrysalis, they became deeply involved romantically. The events of Chrysalis did not alter that, but turned their love into something much more tangible and real - it also brought acceptance to their relationship from the Ranger corps.
Her implant initially enhanced her psychic gifts, but as the length of time with the implant grew, she found herself using the implant to protect herself from the psychic powers almost as much as using it to enhance the gifts.
